What the Community Keeps Talking About

Two rumours have circulated consistently since the first trailer dropped and have not gone away. The map size and the pricing model. Neither has been confirmed by Rockstar. Both originate from sources with documented track records. Both are worth examining on their own terms, with the appropriate label on them.

Everything in this article is Rumour. None of the claims below have been confirmed by Rockstar or Take-Two. Sources are named where known. Treat accordingly.
Rumour 1

The Map Is Significantly Larger Than GTA V

Community mapping projects based on Trailer 1 and Trailer 2 footage have produced estimates placing Leonida's playable area at roughly 120 to 140 square kilometres. For reference, GTA V's map is generally estimated at 81 square kilometres of playable space. If the community estimates are close to accurate, Leonida is the largest map in the series by a significant margin.

The basis for these estimates is the distance-per-second calculations applied to aerial and driving footage in both trailers, combined with the identified real-world locations and their known geographic relationships. The methodology is community-developed and unverified by Rockstar. Tez2 has noted that the map scope appears substantial based on available footage, without providing specific measurements.

The confirmed geographic range of Leonida supports the large map estimates on qualitative grounds. The Keys, Port Gellhorn, Mount Kalaga, Grassrivers, Lake Leonida, and the Red Hill Forest are all confirmed separate locations across significant geographic spread. A map that fits all of these in a space smaller than GTA V's would require serious geographic compression. The estimates feel plausible. They are still estimates.
Rumour 2

The Base Game Will Cost $100

A widely circulated rumour places the standard edition price at $100 USD, representing a $30 increase over the current console standard of $70. The rumour originates from Take-Two financial analyst commentary and has been repeated by multiple gaming industry journalists including Jason Schreier, who has noted that the industry has been signalling a price increase for flagship titles.

No official price has been announced by Rockstar or Take-Two. Strauss Zelnick has discussed premium pricing in general terms in investor calls, without confirming a specific number for this title.

The $100 price point would be a significant industry moment, not just for this title. It would effectively set the new ceiling for AAA game pricing. Take-Two has the market position and the product leverage to move that ceiling. If any title is going to do it, Leonida is the candidate. Whether they do it is still unknown. Expect a formal pricing announcement in the months before launch.
