The protagonist can take photos, share them to the in-game platform, and observe the feed of other Leonida residents doing the same. 7X built their entire criminal identity around this mechanic. The broader Vice City population uses Snapmatic the same way real Miami uses Instagram: to perform a curated version of their life to an audience that is performing theirs back.
The activity connects to the broader Vice City narrative. Content that the protagonist posts affects their in-game social presence. Other characters reference what appears on the feed. Law enforcement can use Snapmatic posts as evidence in the same way real social media is used by police. The activity has consequences that go beyond the engagement count.
The photo mechanic uses the in-game camera with filter and framing options. Shared posts generate in-game reactions from followers. The content economy creates a social currency that certain mission types and character interactions require accumulating.
The 7X crew's approach to crime as content is the extreme version of what the social media activity makes broadly possible. Any Vice City event can be documented. The documentation enters the feed. The feed is read by everyone in the game world who is paying attention to it.
