Behavior and Threat Profile

The raccoon is the most urban-adapted mammal in Leonida. It is in the bins behind the restaurants, on the roof of the marina building, in the alley behind the club at three in the morning. It is not afraid of people. It is not afraid of anything that does not actively chase it.

As ambient wildlife it adds exactly the right texture to Vice City's nighttime environment. Miami has raccoons. Every city with accessible food waste has raccoons. Leonida is no different.

In proximity to the player it investigates rather than flees. The standard wildlife flight response applies at a much closer distance than it does for rural species. The raccoon has had enough exposure to humans to recalibrate its threat assessment. Incorrectly, but consistently.
