Leonida has a wildlife problem in the technical sense that Florida has a wildlife problem: the state is ecologically rich, the population is dense, and the two overlap constantly. Animal Control is the agency that manages the intersections.
The alligator call is the core job. A twelve-foot American alligator on a Vice City golf course or in a Port Gellhorn parking lot is not a police matter and not a fire department matter. It is an Animal Control matter. The agency has the equipment, the restraint protocols, and the specific expertise in moving large reptiles that other public safety agencies do not develop.
The python situation in the Grassrivers is the longer-term management challenge. The invasive Burmese python population in the real Florida Everglades has been a wildlife management problem for decades. Leonida's Grassrivers has the same dynamic. Animal Control works the wetland margin alongside the agencies that patrol the roads.
