American Alligator

At rest it looks like a log. Moving it is faster than the distance suggests. In the water the gap closes before most players recognise it as a gap.

Threat Level
Lethal in Water
Fast, sustained damage on a successful grab. Manageable on land, dangerous the moment you're both in the water.
Habitat
Grassrivers, golf courses, and any standing water
Freshwater wetlands, slow rivers, canals, retention ponds, and any accessible body of standing water in Leonida.
Rarity
Common in wetland zones
High density in the Grassrivers. Present wherever standing water exists in southern Leonida.
Resource Value
Hide and Meat
Recoverable on successful hunt. Significant value. The risk-to-reward calculation is part of the point.

Behavior and Threat Profile

American alligators are the ecological anchor of Florida wetland systems. In Leonida they fill the same role: they are why you do not swim in still water in the Grassrivers, and they are why the golf courses have warning signs that nobody reads.

The attack behaviour is two-phase. At distance they watch and wait. Within the attack threshold they close fast and grab. The grab applies a sustained damage sequence that requires immediate response. In water the mobility advantage is entirely theirs.

Outside the water they are still dangerous but slower. The attack is direct, the bite force is significant, but they cannot change direction fast. The tactical difference between an alligator encounter on land and in water is the difference between a manageable problem and a serious problem.

Frequently Asked

Is the American Alligator in GTA 6?
Yes. Alligators appear in Trailer 1, in a Grassrivers wetland sequence and again on a Vice County golf course water hazard.
Where do alligators live in GTA 6?
The Grassrivers mainly. Also golf course water hazards and any standing water across southern Leonida.
Are alligators dangerous in GTA 6?
In the water, yes. They close distance fast and hit hard. On land they're still dangerous but slower to turn, which changes the fight.
