How to Pre-Load GTA 6 on PS5 and Xbox
Pre-load opens on Tuesday, November 10, 2026. On PS5 it starts at midnight local time in your time zone. On Xbox Series X|S it starts worldwide at 12 a.m. GMT, which is 7 p.m. Eastern on November 9. You need up to 212 GB of free space.
To let it start by itself, own the game on the account that will play, or redeem the code from a boxed copy. Turn on automatic downloads, leave the console on or in Rest Mode (PS5) or Sleep (Xbox), and stay connected to the internet. Pre-loading does not unlock the game. That happens at midnight local time on November 19.

Turn on auto-download for GTA VI: open Game Library, then Your Collection, select your pre-order, select the countdown timer, and tick the box for auto-download. Then go to Settings, System, Power Saving, Features Available in Rest Mode, and turn on Stay Connected to the Internet. Before midnight, put the PS5 in Rest Mode from the control center. Check your free space under Settings, Storage.

Xbox Series X|S: what do I set up before it starts?

Microsoft's support pages say a pre-ordered game installs on its own when your console is set as your home console, is on or in Sleep mode, is connected to the Xbox network, and has enough storage. Set Sleep under Settings, General, Power options, and turn on Keep my games and apps up to date under Settings, System, Updates. From 12 a.m. GMT on November 10 you can also start the install yourself from My games and apps.

I bought a boxed copy. How do I pre-load?

A boxed copy holds a download code and no disc. Boxed copies are expected at retailers from November 12, and Rockstar says the code can be used as soon as you have it, to support the pre-load. On PS5, redeem it from your avatar menu under Redeem Code. PlayStation codes only work on accounts registered in the matching region set. Xbox codes are not region-locked.
