Behavior and Threat Profile
The Florida Panther is Leonida's answer to a simple question: what is the most dangerous land animal in the state? The answer is not the alligator, which you can see and avoid. It is not the wild boar, which charges from a direction you can read. The panther is behind you before the situation has registered.
Real Florida panthers are critically endangered. Fewer than two hundred individuals remain in the wild. The game reflects this honestly: encounters are rare, and repeat encounters in the same area are rarer still. It is not ambient fauna. It is an event.
The attack is fast and the recovery window is short. Unlike the alligator, which grabs and holds, the panther strikes and repositions. Multiple attacks in rapid succession. The standard response of standing still or backing away does not apply.
