Before August 6: No Trailer, No Date, No Countdown
As of this article's original publication, Rockstar had said nothing about a third trailer. Every date floating around was invented by someone other than Rockstar. That changed on August 6: Rockstar and Netflix confirmed "Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look" for August 27, premiering on Netflix six hours before YouTube. It isn't a numbered trailer. Rockstar built its own format instead.
What was real at the time: the launch is locked for November 19, pre-orders opened June 25, and the marketing run Sony and Rockstar committed to was underway. The next reveal turned out to fit inside that run, just not under the name everyone expected.
What Rockstar Has Actually Released
Two trailers. That's the entire official trailer output for the biggest game launch in history, and both did their job without a single follow-up explainer from Rockstar.
Why Everyone Said Late Summer
Press and analysts pointed at late July through mid-August. That was pattern-reading, not information. The logic ran: pre-orders opened in June, launch is in November, so the big marketing beat lands in between.
Reasonable, and it held up: August 27 lands right inside that window. The one thing nobody predicted was the format. Rockstar didn't drop a trailer with zero warning like it did with Trailer 2. This time there was an announcement about the announcement, three weeks out, with Netflix attached.
Rumors That Fell Apart
The July 2 "8-minute gameplay" claim. Fan pages pushed a specific date and a specific runtime. July 2 came and went. Nothing dropped, and the posts quietly disappeared.
The YouTube metadata "leak". A claim that YouTube backend data revealed the trailer's upload window. YouTube metadata shows nothing of the sort, and the story traced back to a single unsourced post.
Netflix First, Then The Usual Doors
